3B Richard Woon Tian Jun (36)

This service learning has let me realise that there are many unfortunate people even in our modern, first world Singapore. Going to these old folks home has made me realise that thre are many old folks left alone, and abandoned by their own family, or even their family is so poor that they can hardly afford to support their own mothers and fathers, leaving all of their parents in the old folks home. I feel so helpless, yet i pity those old folks as i can't do anything to help them with their situation. However, i do the best i can every single time i went there, to at least let these people know that they are not alone without love in this world.

the best part of this service learning is to see the old folks smile. no matter what we do, the smile of those less priveleged lets us know that we have placed some happiness in their lives, and i also will feel a sense of satisfaction. The worst, however, is the loss of interest of the old folks in our activities. This makes me feel so disappointed, and a little frustrated, as it  means that whatever we have thought of is not interesting, and thus the old folks are just bored, and we were just wasting their time.

In my adult or college years, as a Red Cross member i believe that there would be a high possibility that i would be involved in community service. not only in Singapore, but internationally, to provide service to those who need it.
