Re: VS CE

VS Sec 3 Service Learning to Zion Home For The Aged.

This service learning activity is a new experience for me. In the past, we would just perform for
those old people and then leave the place. I did not interact with them and after interacting with
them, I found out that they are actually very lonely and bored staying in the old folks home. When
we go there, at least they would have some performances to watch to relieve boredom.

How has the service learning experience changed my thinking, attitudes and actions towards
others, myself and the community?

-I feel that we should care for the elderly and not put them into old folks home just because you
are busy or find that they are a hindrance. Taking responsibility of the elderly is what we should do
as young Singaporeans. We should be more sensitive of the elderly and not put them into old folks
home just because you think it is the best option if you don't take care of them.

What stands out as the best or worst thing that happened to you in your service learning
experience? What did you learn from these experiences?

-Looking at the smiles on the faces of the old people is the happiest thing. Even doing small things
can also make them happy. We should care for them more.

Do you see yourself involved in the community during your college and adult years? Why or why
not?

-It definitely would not be my last time involved in the community. I have been doing community
work for the past few long holidays, helping out in Community Centres and I find it really fun and
meaningful.
